MEET AJ
AJ (Anita Joy) Martin is a singer-songwriter, producer, pianist, professional session musician, and artist development mentor whose career bridges professional performance, studio production, and contemporary vocal training. As the founder of AJ Martin Music Studios, she is passionate about helping aspiring artists build healthy technique, discover their unique voice, and bring their music to life through a modern studio experience.
Classically trained with a contemporary perspective, AJ's musical journey began at an early age at the Music Arts Institute in Independence, Missouri, where she first developed her foundation in vocal performance. During that time, she received the Grand Prize in the Reflections Songwriting Competition for her original composition, "A Dream of Tomorrow"—an early milestone that sparked a lifelong passion for songwriting and original music.
Throughout high school, AJ was selected to the Missouri All-State Choir for two consecutive years and performed with the Kansas City Youth Symphony Chorus under the direction of Professor Simon Carrington of The King's Singers. She also portrayed leading roles in Guys and Dolls and The Music Man, developing the versatility and stage presence that continue to influence her work as both a performer and mentor.
AJ later studied Voice at the University of Alberta before pursuing Music Production and Sound Engineering at the Academy of Production and Recording Arts in Calgary. By combining formal vocal training with professional studio production, she developed a distinctive approach that blends traditional technique with contemporary artistry—an approach that has shaped AJ Martin Music Studios for more than 20 years.
As both a recording artist and professional session musician, AJ has contributed her vocal and piano performances to a variety of recording projects spanning television, film, radio, and commercial music production. Her rendition of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" was recorded for the award-winning short film Inside Job, where she was contracted as a session musician. The film was later showcased at the Cannes International Film Festival, reflecting the collaborative nature of her work within the professional music industry.
AJ's original music has also received ongoing FM radio airplay in Utah, where several of her earlier compositions continue to be featured. She continues to write, record, and release original music, including her latest pop single, "Live in Love," while expanding her catalogue of contemporary songs.
Today, AJ continues to balance her work as an artist, producer, and mentor, bringing each of those experiences into the studio. Rather than teaching vocal technique in isolation, she guides artists through the creative process—from developing healthy vocal foundations and refining their artistry to experiencing professional recording sessions and creating music they're proud to share.
Every studio session reflects one guiding philosophy: great artists are developed through the combination of healthy technique, creative exploration, and real-world studio experience. Whether working with emerging artists or experienced performers, AJ is committed to creating an encouraging environment where artistry can flourish, confidence can grow, and every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
